Usability is the perceived ease of users finding information to support their goals. The first few seconds in which the user experiences a website are the most critical. In that short space of time, a user evaluates subconsciously a range of usability factors, such as:
- How fast did this page load...is this website going to be slow to use?
- Does the site, and therefore the company it represents, look professional?
- Can I see links that clearly support the tasks I want to carry out?
- Does the content look clearly presented and informative?
As many as 70% of users leave a website at the Home page without venturing further, so clarity of home page design is paramount.
