Newmarket has many natural and historic attractions close by. Of course, no visit to Newmarket is complete without visiting sites associated with its rich sporting heritage as the historic home of horse racing. You can visit the world famous National Stud, take in a tour of the National Horse Racing Museum, and even arrange a tour of the town’s training facilities.
Venturing out of Newmarket, walkers are spoilt for choice. You can either head north to the haunting landscape of the Fens, taking in Wicken Fen and Ely Cathedral as you go.
Or head south into the undulating chalk countryside with its beautifully manicured stud paddocks, perhaps taking a stroll along the Devils Dyke.
Newmarket is well served for easy transport links to the rest of East Anglia: the A14 takes you in about 20 minutes to Cambridge in the west, where you can enjoy the delights of the ancient University Town. Less well known, but a delight to discover, are the many historic buildings of Bury St Edmunds, including its recently completed Cathedral Tower.
