What a hotel manager does
A hotel manager is normally involved in all aspects of a hotel's operation. Hotel management roles vary, but typically you will be:
- Operationally involved on a daily basis in all front of house departments, supporting and training supervisors and ensuring the smooth running of the hotel.
- Involved in planning and managing the smooth operation of functions and conferences, where applicable
- Taking on duty management shifts, working with staff at all levels and in every department.
What type of person the role suits
To be an effective hotel manager, you will need to have:
- The ability to think well on your feet, responding to the needs of every department on a day to day basis and liaising closely with the General Manager in aspects of operational excellence
- Awareness of all relevant legislation, as well as a thorough understanding of budgets
- A full understanding of all hotel departments
- Skill and patience in managing a range of hotel staff effectively.
